Since the beginning of the US-Israel war with Iran, people have been asking whether Donald Trump will launch a ground invasion.
Roughly 10,000 additional US troops have now arrived in the Middle East, giving President Trump options ranging from an invasion of Kharg Island to an elaborate special forces operations to seize Iran’s so-called ‘nuclear dust’.
For years, the Pentagon has simulated war games to try and plan for what might happen if the US went to war with Iran.
Our guest, Ilan Goldenberg, was in the room during the Obama years, taking part in the games. He is a former White House Iran advisor.

viral posts claiming that Donald Trump has been hospitalised—or even died. Dramatic posts featuring ambulances, sirens, and alleged emergency scenes have fueled panic online, especially on X.
Some users दावा that Trump was rushed to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, while others falsely claimed he was near death. However, there is no official confirmation from authorities or credible sources.
Despite the rumours, Trump continues to issue statements related to the ongoing Iran conflict, contradicting viral claims about his condition. Fact-checks and even AI chatbot Grok have labelled the reports as baseless misinformation.
The controversy appears to have started from a single unverified account before rapidly spreading across social media, amplified by misleading posts and old videos.

Earlier, he announced that a US airman missing in Iran, after his F-15 fighter jet was shot down, had been rescued in a daring military operation. The pilot had already been rescued by US forces.

STRIKES: The Israeli Air Force carried out a dramatic strike in Mahshahr, targeting the Fajr 1 and 2, Rajal, and Amir Kabir petrochemical facilities, described in the report as chemical production centers tied to Iran’s ballistic missile industry. According to the report, the bombing of Iran’s second-largest chemical complex caused a full shutdown of ballistic production lines.
RESCUE MISSION: A dramatic operation is now underway deep inside Iran after another American aircraft was reportedly shot down. Yair covers the U.S. special forces ground mission searching for a missing American navigator in the Zagros Mountains, after the pilot of an F-15E was reportedly rescued under fire while helicopters and crew members were hit during the extraction effort.
ISRAEL: Iran continues launching heavy fire toward Israel, with reported impacts near the Kirya in Tel Aviv and major damage in central Israel, including burned vehicles and multiple impact scenes. At the same time, Israeli and American officials reportedly acknowledge that although Iran’s missile firepower is weakening, Tehran is still rebuilding damaged missile bunkers within hours and may sustain its attacks in the coming days.

IRAN: President Trump declared that the United States could send Iran “back to the Stone Age” within two to three weeks if Tehran refuses a deal. At the same time, U.S. forces reportedly struck a major bridge route linked to Tehran and Kharg, as Washington increases pressure on Iran’s military and economic infrastructure. Reports also say the largest steel plant in Iran was hit by Israel and the United States.
ISRAEL: During the holiday, around 20 missiles were launched from Iran, while Israeli officials say Hezbollah coordinated additional fire from Lebanon in multiple waves. In the last 24 hours, about 140 rockets were launched from Lebanon, with roughly two-thirds aimed at IDF forces. In response, Israeli Air Force jets dropped more than 140 munitions to disrupt the attacks, while the IDF says more than 40 terrorists were eliminated and dozens of Hezbollah sites were struck in Lebanon.
HEZBOLLAH / IRGC: Israeli officials say Tehran transferred about $2 billion to Hezbollah over the last year alone. At the same time, Iran reportedly sent new messages of support to Hezbollah leadership, promising continued backing for the “resistance” in the region. Yair also covers reports that the IRGC’s financial network is under growing pressure.
NUCLEAR / STRATEGY: The uranium is still in Iran, and reports say Washington is struggling to remove it, while considering alternatives ranging from tactical burial with bombs to intensified economic pressure. According to Bloomberg, the next phase of the US military campaign will commit nearly the entire inventory of stealthy JASSM-ER (Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range) cruise missiles, drawing from stockpiles deployed at strategic positions in the rest of the world. The JASSM-ER, or Joint Air-to-Surface Missile-Extended Range, can strike targets more than 600 miles (965 km) away and is designed to hit from standoff distances to evade enemy air defences.

Thousands of U.S. troops arrive in Middle East as the U.S. continues its war with Iran.
The U.S. has destroyed 11,000 targets within Iran since Operation Epic Fury kicked off, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. The Pentagon estimates that over 90% of Iran's air force and navy have been destroyed in the conflict. Over 70% of their missile stores have also been destroyed, Leavitt said.
President Trump said the U.S. and Tehran are in "serious discussions" about ending the war in Iran and have made "serious progress" in a Truth Social post on Monday.
"The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran," Trump wrote.

As of last week, the United States had 16 of the vital but ageing E-3 Sentries, with roughly 40 per cent deployed to the Middle East.
Now there’s one less, after Iran attacked the Prince Sultan Air Base with ballistic missiles and drones, injuring 12 US personnel and damaging up to five air-to-air refuelling tankers.
The point of impact, where the radar dome attaches to the Sentry, suggests a precision strike by a drone, a more accurate weapon than a ballistic missile when used by Iran.
It also hints at Tehran’s burgeoning intelligence levels, with Volodymyr Zelensky revealing that Russia – already accused of sharing military information and hardware with Iran – had taken satellite images of the Saudi base in the days before the strike.

IRAN: Iran is under growing economic and military pressure as Israeli and U.S. strikes continue across the country. Reports from Tehran describe widespread power outages, pressure on regime infrastructure, and another wave of Israeli strikes on missile sites, weapons production, research facilities, and other regime-linked targets. Iran is also threatening to expand the targets it will attack in Israel and has issued new warnings against senior American and Israeli officials in the region.
DIPLOMACY: Washington is operating on two tracks at once—direct and indirect talks with Tehran, while also reinforcing military pressure and setting a deadline for a possible deal. President Trump said negotiations are moving in an “extraordinary way,” but also made clear he wants control of Iranian oil and is not ruling out action involving Kharg Island if Iran refuses U.S. demands.
U.S. MILITARY: The war appears to be entering a new stage as additional American forces arrive in the Middle East, including special operations troops. Reports say Washington is considering several options if talks fail, including securing the Strait of Hormuz, seizing Kharg Island, or even a complex operation to remove enriched uranium from buried Iranian sites. According to the report, experts warn such an operation would be difficult, dangerous, and could take days.
REGION: Iran is dramatically reducing traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, with ships piling up in the Gulf and oil prices reacting sharply. Regional mediation efforts involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt are continuing, but there is still no clear breakthrough. Iran is also trying to stretch the conflict by pulling in additional fronts, including pressure through the Houthis.
NORTH: In Lebanon, the IDF is expanding its operational depth and building a dynamic security zone up to the Litani area in order to push Hezbollah farther from Israel’s border, destroy terrorist infrastructure, and reduce the threat to northern communities. At the same time, Hezbollah is reportedly blocking efforts to expel the Iranian ambassador from Lebanon, underlining how closely tied the Lebanese front remains to Tehran.

The US military is prepared to strike Iran as early as this weekend, though President Donald Trump has yet to make a final decision on whether he’ll authorize such actions, sources familiar with the matter tell CNN. The White House has been briefed that the military could be ready for an attack by the weekend, after a significant buildup in recent days of air and naval assets in the Middle East, the sources said.
